Comprehensive Hearing Tests

Hearing tests are the most important step on your hearing health journey. At Sounds Good Audiology Services, Dr. Talley Dabakarov provides comprehensive hearing tests to accurately determine your current hearing abilities. During your hearing test, you will be seated comfortably in a quiet room. We will present a series of tones that vary in loudness and frequency, and you will be asked to identify when you hear these sounds. Your ability to detect speech and speech discrimination will also be determined during this evaluation. The results of your hearing test will be recorded in an audiogram, a visual representation of your hearing abilities. From the audiogram, we will determine whether a hearing loss is present, and if so, the configuration and severity of your hearing loss. Your middle ear health will also be assessed to rule out any possible middle ear conditions.

Hearing Aid Fitting

Hearing aid fittings ensure that your hearing aids are optimal for your hearing needs. Dr. Dabarakov will work with you or your child to determine the best devices to treat the degree and configuration of the hearing loss. During this process, the hearing aid fitting ensures a comfortable physical fit, and it also ensures that the devices provide proper amplification and features useful to your specific hearing needs. Even if you got your hearing aids elsewhere, we would be happy to perform an evaluation of your current hearing aids to ensure that they are functioning at their best for your hearing needs.

Aural Rehabilitation

Aural rehabilitation is a process in which hearing loss is identified and diagnosed, and subsequently treated with different types of therapies. Aural rehabilitation includes the prescription of amplification devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive listening devices, to name a few), treatment services to help you acclimate to your hearing instruments, and behavioral practices to adjust to living with hearing devices (speechreading, listening practices, and auditory training). With children, aural “habilitation” helps with speech and communication development, auditory perception, and management of hearing devices.

Hearing Aid Evaluations

It is natural for your hearing needs to change over time. When a hearing loss is diagnosed and you have been recommended and cleared to utilize hearing aids, the initial step would be to schedule a hearing aid evaluation. During a hearing aid evaluation, we will present you with the best available options that will help improve your quality of life by means of hearing devices. The various styles and technologies available to your specific hearing needs will be presented and you will have an opportunity to try on a demo device so you may have an idea of what to expect when you decide to pursue hearing aid use.

Hearing Aid Repair & Maintenance

Because hearing aids are meant to be worn daily, these sophisticated devices suffer from wear and tear that could affect their effectiveness. While you can perform simple cleaning and troubleshooting at home, it is important not to dissemble your hearing aids or use sharp tools in the process. Regular maintenance and cleaning with us at Sounds Good Audiology will help your hearing aids function at their best. If you’ve noticed recurring problems with sound quality, volume, and functionality of features, then you’ll want to visit us for repairs and maintenance. We will work to fix the problem in-house, check that your batteries are in excellent condition, and make sure that your devices are clean and functional. Additionally, we will test the electrical components of your devices to ensure that they are in sound working order. For more serious repairs, we may send your aids to the manufacturer for servicing.
